A few days before the release of their debut full-length SUCK should make sure that the expectations of their fans rise again with their new single 'Rat King'. As already with 'Hell & Heaven' the quartet expands its hard punk with heavy metal elements. This time, however, it's less straight thrash metal and more groovy, fuzz-soaked 70s proto-metal à la Black Sabbath. The guitar switches back and forth between percussive parts in the verse, the opening main riff that sounds casual and evil at the same time, and fat power chords in the chorus. In the second half of the song, the tremolo playing even reminds of surf music, but this plays surprisingly well into the hands of the gloom and harshness of the song. Thus, a swampy atmosphere is created, which fits wonderfully to the song's namesake: the term rat king still comes from medieval times and means a bunch of rats whose tails have become knotted and thus have become a - additionally stuck together by blood and excrement - super organism. SUCK translate this symbiosis into their music: punk and heavy metal but also herbaceous synthesizers grow together just like melodic and screamed vocals or fast, hard 4/4 beats with triplets and extravagant fills and become the Rat King, to whom SUCK have now written a hymn. Rip it!
